This qualification reflects the role of individuals who apply knowledge, practical skills and experience in leadership and management across a range of enterprise and industry contexts.

Individuals at this level display initiative and judgement in planning, organising, implementing and monitoring their own workload and the workload of others. They use communication skills to support individuals and teams to meet organisational or enterprise requirements.

They plan, design, apply and evaluate solutions to unpredictable problems, and identify, analyse and synthesise information from a variety of sources. Conversely, it may also apply to those with little or no vocational experience, but who possess sound theoretical Leadership and Management skills and knowledge that they would like to develop in order to create further educational and employment opportunities

This course is designed for local students and international students. They will study the theory of Leadership and Management and undertake exercises and assessments, many of which will be in a simulated work environment. Students successfully completing the course will receive the BSB50420 Diploma of Leadership and Management.

QIBA has the following entry requirements:

International students must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age and must have completed at least the equivalent of Year 12.
  • Have an IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent (test results must be no more than 2 years old).
  • Participate in a course entry interview to demonstrate their suitability for the course.
  • Participate in LLN test and score 3 or above

English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:

  • Educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country; or
  • Successful completion of an English Placement Test

NOTE: Other English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL can be accepted. Students are required to provide their results so that it can be confirmed they are equivalent to IELTS 5.5.

The BSB50420 Diploma of Leadership and Management is intended to prepare students or recognise and develop existing workers who are performing a range of management or specialist roles in a Leadership and Management environment.

This qualification is transferrable across many industries, as it teaches transferrable Leadership and Management skills.

Students are required to attend 20 hours of classroom training and assessment activities per week during the training and assessment weeks.

Approximately 6 hours per week of unsupervised study hours (assessment preparation) is expected, in addition to the 20 hours of classroom training per week.

Course delivery is through classroom-based face-to-face learning at the Sydney, Canberra and Brisbane Campus locations. This is tailored for theoretical and practical training sessions by means of simulated workplace environments and group activities.

This allows learners to develop the knowledge and foundations required to undertake business services-based work or information and communications technology work and to prepare for and practice dealing with, situations that arise in business services and IT settings. Units of competency in these courses can be delivered as standalone units.

QIBA offers Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfers to students with existing qualifications or skills, knowledge and experience. The granting of course credit may affect course fees, as well as the duration of the course.

Assessment for this qualification may include written reports, case studies, projects, role plays, oral questioning, case study analysis, demonstration, presentation written assessments and third-party reports as well as portfolios of evidence and workplace reports.

Students must demonstrate competence across all tasks of Assessment to achieve Competence in the unit.
